Middle School students at our Wairoa campus (Years 7- 9) have undertaken a ‘Caring for Children’ study unit researching the vast developmental changes that occur in children 0-6 years. Throughout the term students have engaged with a midwife, had classes with early childhood educators, facilitated a mothers group and worked with an infant first-aid specialist.
Students have spent time in our Infant Program and Preschool (at our Primary campus) to become more knowledgeable and competent with small children, whilst learning interactively about a child’s development and how their needs are met at home and in a school environment.
The unit covers core subjects within the curriculum such as Science, Health and Careers and combines theory with a practical focus. The subject also concentrates on Personal and Social Capabilities as students interact with parents, toddlers and babies as well as health care professionals and educators.
