Our Preschool students have been learning about the zoology topic of invertebrates. We have had a focus on the phyla of Arthropoda which includes insects, arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods. The children have been excited to discover these as well as other invertebrates in and around our preschool environment. We have also had the opportunity to have a selection of live arthropods in the classroom including a scorpion, huntsman, spider, silk worms, spiny leaf insects and hermit crabs. Observing these creatures so closely has allowed students to learn more about arthropod characteristics, life cycles, diets and the correct terminology for body parts.
