Thursday is ‘Soup Day’ for our Cycle 2 students in Term 2. In groups of four, students take it in turns to cook for their class. They supply the ingredients, are responsible for preparing the meal and cleaning up afterwards.
Cooking in the classroom (or outdoor kitchen!) provides many benefits to students. It gives them the opportunity to try new healthy foods whilst providing a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of contributing to their class. A kitchen is a learning lab for children that can involve all their senses. As they chop, pour, smell, feel and taste different foods, students have fun as they learn.
